RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — This week, 8SportsBlitz turns to the private sector. #10 Benedictine has the hard ware, but rival Woodberry Forest has the bragging rights.

The Cadets (5-1) are on the road to a third straight VISAA D-I state championship this season, this Saturday they face a pesky speed bump that has troubled them the last two seasons, namely the Tigers from Orange, Va.

Both seasons, Clint Alexander’s Tigers have upset Greg Lilly’s Cadets home and away, with last year’s game coming down to a game-winning drive led by Virginia Cavaliers commit Lindell Stone at quarterback.

Benedictine’s head coach Lilly is 1-6 against Woodberry’s head coach Alexander.

Woodberry, a private boarding school, doesn’t participate in state private school postseason tournaments due to final exams coinciding with the tourney dates. So they treat their matchup with Benedictine as their state championship game.

The Cadets want to beat Woodberry to regain the bragging rights and gain even more momentum as they head to the VISAA D-I playoffs.
