RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Anchor Bar, “The Home of the Original Chicken Wing,” announces two new franchises, with one being right here in Richmond.
This will be the first Anchor Bar location in the Southeast. The restaurant is slated to open its doors this coming winter.
Franchise owner David Allred, a Richmond native, has signed a long-term lease agreement at the Stony Point Fashion Park, at 9200 Stony Point Parkway in south Richmond.
“I’ve been wanting to open a restaurant for some time, so when I heard about an opportunity with Anchor Bar, I jumped at the chance,” Allred said. “There just isn’t anything else like it in Richmond, and I think the people here will enjoy the unique flavors you can only find at the Home of the Original Chicken Wing.”
Construction of the 8,500-square-foot facility, located at Stony Point’s former Champps Americana Location, is currently underway.
The new franchise will feature a sports bar and family dining area where guests will find all of the Anchor Bar staples, including wings and boneless bites, as well as house-made lasagna, pizza, and hot sandwiches.
The original Anchor Bar, located in downtown Buffalo, first opened its doors in 1935 and invented the chicken wing in 1964. The Anchor Bar Franchise & Development Company opened its first franchise location in 2009 at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Today, the company has grown to nine franchise locations.
