SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A 55-year-old woman was hospitalized Saturday night after a man allegedly hit her with a piece of wood when she refused to give him a cigarette in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.

The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth and Natoma streets, police said.

The man came up to the woman asking for a cigarette. When the woman didn’t give him one, he hit her with a 2×4 piece of wood, police said.

The suspect then left on foot.

The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers could not find the suspect. He is described as a man between the ages of 45 and 50.
