12 families displaced after Cabin Creek apartment fire

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County fire crews responded to a fire in the 1200 block of Gaskins Road at the Cabin Creek apartments Sunday afternoon that left 12 families displaced.

Units arrived shortly before 4 p.m. and upon seeing the fire, called in for backup.bbbb

8News was told that the 2 alarm fire appears to have started in an upstairs apartment, but the exact cause is still unknown.

Officials did confirm that everyone living in the building made it out safely and no injuries were reported.

When crews arrived, they told 8News reporter Parker Slaybaugh that flames were so big inside, that they decided to fight the fire from above using a ladder simultaneously to get it under control faster.

“When they arrived, they saw that from 2 sides, the front and the back, the fire had already come through the roof and because of that, they went ahead and started to move some hose lines inside very aggressively,” Henrico Fire representative Taylor Goodman said. “While they were inside fighting the fire, it continued to grow and that is when we determined to set up the ladder truck and actually attack the fire from the top with a greater volume of water.”

The Red Cross tells 8News they are providing assistance to those 12 families displaced.
