Red Cross installs smoke alarms in local neighborhoods

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Teams of Red Cross volunteers with the Fire Departments will be going door to door testing smoke alarms today.

If necessary, they will be replacing batteries, replacing alarms that are over 10 years old, and installing new alarms where none exist.

They will also review fire safety checklists with families, assist residents in completing a household disaster plan, and provide safety information.

The volunteers will be in the following areas today:

  • Chesterfield County: (9 a.m. – 1 p.m) 400 East Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia
  • Henrico County: (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) North of 9 Mile Road and west of Airport Drive (9 a.m. staging at Old Fire Station 1)
  • Richmond City (10 a.m. – noon) Worsham Mobile Home Park, 5347 Hull Street Road
  • Stafford County (10 a.m. – until) Foxwood Village Mobile Home Park, 153 Staffordborough Boulevard
