HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Henrico County School Board has proposed changing the name of Mills Godwin High School’s specialty center in honor of a beloved teacher and director at the center.

Under the proposal, the school’s Center for Medical Sciences would become the Todd Phillips Center for Medical Sciences.

Phillips taught at the school and served as a coach and center director. He died in a car accident in June of this year.

Last year he led the center’s transition to a focus on medical sciences from its initial emphasis on math, science and technology.

The School Board welcomes public comments about the possible name change. To give your opinion, go to henricoschools.us and look under “Hot Topics” or go to http://henricoschools.us/school-board-proposes-renaming-of-godwin-specialty-center/. Comments will be collected through Oct. 21.

The Board is expected to act on the proposed renaming at its Oct. 27 meeting.
