Audit finds Petersburg Treasurer and Sheriff complied with the law

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — An auditor has found no wrongdoing pertaining to Petersburg’s public accounts.

The state looked into the treasurer and sheriff’s departments to see if officials have complied with state laws and regulations. The results of the tests found the officers were in compliance.

Also in Petersburg, today is the last day for companies to apply to take over the city’s three museums.

The change was part of the proposal to fix the city’s budget deficit. so far, only one company has applied and another is expected to before close of business today.

Eliminating funding for the museums is expected to save the city $300,000 in 2017 and $400,000 in 2018.
