HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Short Pump man hopes to spin his way to riches next week on Wheel of Fortune.
30-year-old Blake Saunders got noticed when the Wheelmobile rolled into Short Pump Town Center last fall.
“There were thousands of people and they only drew like 40 names, I think and I was one of them,” Saunders explained.
After two auditions, the Short Pump man learned he was going to Hollywood.
“Man, it was surreal,” Saunders said. “People tell you you’re going to be on a game show and you’re like, OK. It doesn’t really set in. I don’t think it really set in until I was in Culver City in front of Pat and Vanna and then it hit me like oh my God, I’m on a game show.”
He shot the episode in August and calls it the fastest 30 minutes of his life.
“There’s cameras. There’s lights. There’s makeup. I even had my own personal waterboy who kept bringing me water. It was a nice little taste of Hollywood,” Saunders added.
While he’s enjoying these moments of hometown fame, Saunders wishes his grandmothers were still around to enjoy it.
“I just have all these childhood memories of both my grandmothers yelling at the TV, and you know, one of my grandmothers thought Pat was so attractive and you know its just kind of cool, I feel like I fulfilled their dream too,” he said.
