Crews working to fix sinkhole in Virginia

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Crews are working to fix a sinkhole that formed in the early morning hours of Tuesday on Southampton Parkway, near the Suffolk city line.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office says the hole is 15 feet by 20 feet in width, and is 15 feet deep. VDOT crews are currently on scene working to fix the problem.

Deputies responded to the sinkhole around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday. The right lane of Southampton Parkway is currently closed, and the sheriff’s office says it does not have an indication on when the lane will reopen.

The sinkhole has reportedly resulted in three flat tires. No injuries have been reported.

Officials have not said what may have caused the sinkhole.
