Baby Buns is home after 356 days in the hospital

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — It was an emotional day for the Graves family after Baby Buns was finally released from the hospital after his 356-day stay.

This kid is definitely a fighter. I don’t know what else God has in store for him, but it’s going to be… Kaleb is going to change the world.

Arkell and Dana Graves were beaming as they left the hospital with their little one.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. It’s so surreal. It’s been a long time coming,” said Kaleb “Baby Buns'” mother, Dana Griffin-Graves.

On this special day, a special ride home. Kaleb strapped in his car seat for a limo ride home to Dinwiddie.

“It was really hard seeing this day in the beginning but I have these glasses on because I’ve been crying so much. Tears of joy. I just feel so blessed right now. Humbly blessed,” said Kaleb’s father Arkell Graves.

“Kaleb is back here making noises over his trach. You hear him? Say it again Kaleb. Kaleb is back here talking so he is enjoying the ride.”

Waiting anxiously outside, a crowd of family and friends who prayed for this day to come.

“This kid is definitely a fighter. I don’t know what else God has in store for him, but it’s going to be… Kaleb is going to change the world.”

Kaleb’s story has touched people all over the world. His family says they are so grateful for everyone’s support.

Kaleb’s mother is overcome with emotion

8News’ Kristin Smith spent most of the day with Kaleb’s family and spoke with mother Dana Griffin-Graves about how it feels to finally bring home her soon-to-be one-year-old.

“It’s been an array of emotion. I’ve cried, I’ve done a lot of laughing, just overjoyed with everything, thankful to get him home.”

When asked about the nursery that helped Kaleb improve, she couldn’t say enough.

“I cherish every single moment, good and bad.”

Baby Buns’ family ecstatic to have Kaleb home

The rest of Kaleb’s family joined in on the interview and, deservedly so, are overjoyed to have the newest addition of the family finally home.

Kaleb’s older brother Keelyn is ready to begin helping his parents raise baby Kaleb.

“Well, there’s many things. I’ll teach him to be a morally better person than I am,” Keelyn said jokingly.

It’s been a long, but exciting day for the Graves family and one that they will not soon forget.
