Police ID man killed in Essex County wreck

ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities have identified the person who was killed following a two-vehicle crash in Essex County Monday evening.

The wreck occurred at around 5:45 p.m. on Route 659 (Desha Road) near Route 618 (Scotts Mill Road).

According to Virginia State Police, 39-year-old Marcus E. Pitts of Dunnsville was not wearing a seatbelt when he crossed the center line of Desha Road and struck a tractor-trailer that was hauling logs head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was wearing a seat belt and not injured.

Investigators say speed is being considered a factor in the crash and that no charges will be filed.
