RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Families in Richmond are still picking up the pieces after wind and rain swept through the area this weekend. One couple’s home is a total loss after a tree smashed through it.
“They called me and said, ‘that the tree had fell into the house,’ and I said, ‘oh my God,” said Jean Everette, who lived in the home.
The neighbor who made the call was relieved to hear a voice on the other end.
“The neighbor on the other side had come running with panic and they didn’t have a phone number, so we looked out there to see how many cars were there and we had a phone number and we called Jean and she wasn’t there, so it was all good,” neighbor Joe Bryden recalled.
Everette wasn’t home at the time because she was at the hospital with her husband, who was recovering from surgery.
“And I went to the house and I just saw a big disaster, the tree had took it over,” she told 8News Reporter Parker Slaybaugh.
The tree crashed through the home and into the Everette’s bedroom. Jean fears the worst could have happen had they been home.
“Oh yeah, we probably would have been gone,” she said. “But God is good, God is good. My husband would have probably been dead, but I wouldn’t have because I sleep on the other side.
“But God is good, God is good. My husband would have probably been dead, but I wouldn’t have because I sleep on the other side.”
“I thank God that we weren’t there and everything was alright.”
Everette told 8News she and her husband’s insurance company has put her in a hotel until their home is rebuilt.
