Virginia Union stays undefeated in CIAA play with 39-6 win over Lincoln

Virginia Union University’s William Stanback rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns as VUU defeated Lincoln University 39-6 on a rain-soaked field in Hovey Field on Saturday, October 8, in Richmond, Va.

Stanback carried the ball 17 times and then teamed up with Shawheem Dowdy for a 53-yard touchdown pass.

Dowdy completed 16 of 24 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Dowdy now has 13 touchdown passes for the season, Dowdy tossed 20 touchdown passes last season, with the record being 28 set by Lamar Little in 2007.

VUU’s Lavatiae Kelly had five catches for 42 yards while teammateChazton McKenzie had four catches for 57 yards.

The win raised VUU’s record to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA. The Panthers remained tied for first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA with Bowie State with both teams being 1-0 in the division and 3-0 in the CIAA.

The Panthers travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15.
