Statewide hotline observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month


HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and today the Statewide Hotline opened its doors to 8News to share more about help available to women and men.

counslorSince January 1 of this year, hotline counselors answered 29,231 calls.  To serve the entire population, there are also specialized bilingual and LGBTQ resources.

The Statewide Hotline, which was formerly known as the Virginia Sexual Assault and Family Violence Hotline, moved in-house to the Virginia Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Action Alliance this past July 1.  It provides direct access 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to experts with specialized training in sexual and domestic violence.  They provide lifesaving, trauma-informed services and practical tools for safety and healing.
