RICHMOND. Va. (WRIC) — Clevane Gillespie is a landscaper by trade a Redskins fan by choice. He watches every game, but he doesn’t wait until Sunday to let his team spirit show.
Since 2009, Gillespie has landscaped his front yard to be the ultimate tribute to the Burgundy and Gold. He uses hundreds of pounds of multi-colored mulch to craft designs the the famous American Indian head logo, the Redskins R, and the team’s name written out in various scripts.
“There’s no fan that can outdo me. If there is, let him come forth,” Gillespie said while clad in team gear.
Gillespie says he once had a normal grass yard, but he kept getting attacked by yellow jackets while he cut it, so as he was recuperating from an accident in 2009, he just decided to rip up all that grass and create some fan art. He re-works the design every year. Gillespie says it takes about two months to complete a design, and each one is durable enough to last about six months.
Gillespie says he hopes that one day the team will notice his passion.
