Prince George County Police investigating death of special needs student


PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old special needs student who apparently became sick at school and died at a hospital five days later. Police are not releasing the name of the juvenile victim.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 21. The 911 call was received in the Prince George County Police Center at 2:46 p.m. from the front office staff at the high school.

Superintendent Renee Williams says police are conducting an investigation relating to school personnel. She says the student became sick at the dismissal of school before he got on the bus.


“They took the student to the nurse station, from that point 911 was called. Ambulances came and transported the student to John Randolph Hospital. From there, he was air lifted to VCU Medical Center,” said  Prince George Police Captain, Brian Kei.

The student later died on September 26.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of death.
