Fire and gas officials investigating apparent home explosion in New Jersey

(Associated Press)

RICHMOND, Va, (WRIC) — Firefighters, gas officials and investigators are looking into what caused a home explosion in Paterson, New Jersey, Tuesday.

Two homes were leveled in the explosion, and others were damaged by the fire. Authorities in Paterson say 15 houses in a four-block radius had some degree of damage. They say a gas leak was first reported in the area, and the Paterson Fire Department responded to that call.

It is believed all residents were evacuated from the homes before the explosion. No serious injuries have been reported, though five firefighters were evaluated.
