RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — This weekend leading reproductive specialists will come together for the 4th annual Richmond Fertility Workshop: Taking Control of Your Ticking Clock.

They will discuss the causes of infertility, what treatments are available and when to reach out for help.

Michele Whiteside, the workshop’s founder, has a very personal reason for bringing this conversation to Richmond.

“It actually came after a four-year struggle for me and my husband.  We went through seven IUI’s, one round of IVF, and we ended up having four miscarriages,” she remembers.

Estimates show as many as one in every seven couples struggles to have a child, and Whiteside says it is not just something they will deal with while trying to conceive.

“You will always think about the babies you lost, you’ll be so grateful for the babies you had,” she explains.  “So it’s something women and men will struggle with for their entire, entire lives.”

The Richmond Fertility Workshop: Taking Control of Your Ticking Clock is Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m at the Jepson Alumni Center at the University of Richmond.  It costs $10 per person.

One attendee will win $10,000 for an IVF cycle at Virginia Fertility Associates (VA IVF & Andrology Center).  The winner will be announced at the end of the workshop.
