Richmond Police Department identify the dead in southside murder-suicide

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police have confirmed the identities of the two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide in the Hillside Court neighborhood of Richmond Sunday morning.

Shantisha L. Dortch, 29, and Brian A. Harris, 30, both died in the early morning altercation.

According to police, they became involved after they received a call a little after 5 a.m. from a residence at 1629 Glenfield Avenue. As officers responded and started to move in they heard a gunshot.

They soon after learned that an armed adult male was inside and refused to come out.

This led police to step back and call in the SWAT team.

Later police heard another gunshot, at which point the SWAT team entered the building.

When police entered the building, they found couple dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

No officers were hurt in the incident and all neighbors have been deemed safe.
