Petersburg Police identify victim of deadly early morning shooting

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police officers in Petersburg are investigating a deadly shooting that took place early this morning.

Representatives from the police force said the shooting took place at about 6:30 a.m. on the 1000 block of Nottoway Street off of East Wythe Street.

When police arrived they found a 22-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, who police identified as Corby Powell of Chesterfield County, later died as a result of his injuries before he could be medically evacuated.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide. As part of their investigation they are searching for evidence and speaking to all potential witnesses for more information into the shooting.
