Strangeways Brewing opening Fredericksburg location

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC/WTOP) — Richmond-based Strangeways Brewing is investing $2.5 million in a second brewery and tasting room in Fredericksburg.

The new location will also feature event space, an arcade and beer garden, and new equipment to increase its production capacity. The expansion will create about two dozen new jobs.

The company had considered North Carolina for expansion. A $150,000 grant from the governor’s Agricultural and Forestry Industries Development Fund and a matching grant from the City of Fredericksburg helped convince it to expand in the Commonwealth.

Strangeways calls itself the largest producer of sour and wild beers in Virginia, and says more than 100,000 visitors a year come to its Richmond brewery. Owner Neil Burton, a Fredericksburg native, says the second location will feature nearly 50 of its beers on tap and will allow it to increase its barrel aging programs.
