Wizards begin training camp in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Washington Wizards began a new era at VCU’s Siegel Center Tuesday. First year head coach Scott Brooks opened up training camp about two hours south of his new home arena for the first two of a week’s worth of practices before the season begins.

Brooks’s hiring is one of many story lines as the team begins the 2016-2017 campaign. Point guard John Wall’s health is another, and that may be more important. Wall had surgery on both knees in the offseason, and he did not fully participate practice Tuesday.

Wall’s relationship with another Wizards star, Bradley Beal, is something else to watch. Beal took advantage of a recent rise in the salary cap to get an extremely rich contract, and he now makes more than Wall. The chemistry between those two will be important to any Wizards success this season.
