Officers from across the state compete in softball tournament for charity

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — First responders from state and local police hit the field Saturday to play ball for a good cause.

They dubbed it the Battle of the Badges – a softball tournament fundraiser on Saturday afternoon at the Diamond in Richmond.

Officers that took part say it is not about having fun, it is about giving back and making sure everyone has a chance to enjoy life.

8News spoke with senior officer Joey Kierson with the Chesterfield Police Department.

“A lot of the country don’t see law enforcement as working for the community,” Kierson said. “We love our community. We care about our community, and this is our way of showing that’s what we do.”

Eight different law enforcement teams participated and the money that was raised will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
