‘Misleading’ letters being sent to voters as ploy to take personal information

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Elections is warning registered voters after fake letters were sent out from outside groups as a ploy to take personal information.

The Department said the misleading letters are targeting voters and suggesting there’s an issue with their registration. The phony letters are being sent out by two organizations: “Voter Participations Center” and “America’s Future Inc.”

The Department also says that even though these letters include the Virginia Department of Elections’ street address and contact information, it does not come from the Department and are not official election mail.

People who do receive these letters should not give these organizations any of their personal information and to report the letters immediately.

Virginia voters can always confirm their current voter registration status and submit necessary updates on the Department of Elections’ secure Citizen Portal here.
