RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police are desperately looking for leads in the hit-and-run death of a Chinese food delivery driver.
They say 34-year-old Quan Zheng was out making a delivery Friday night when someone took his SUV. As the thief drove away, investigators believe they hit the victim. Zheng died from his injuries the next day in the hospital.
There is still crime scene tape and a Chinese takeout carton where it all happened in the 1400 block of Lenmore street.
Police are looking at two scenarios: the suspect may have forced Zheng out of his SUV or the victim may have left it running while he made his delivery.
Officers did eventually find the vehicle but they won’t say where. It is being searched for possible DNA evidence that could help with the case.
Zheng worked for the Happy Family Chinese restaurant on Midlothian Turnpike. Relatives at the restaurant say he had just moved to Richmond from New York a week ago.
Anyone with any information about this incident or this vehicle is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Gary Bailey at (804) 646-6743 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
