Richmond Police investigating 43rd murder of the year

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police in Richmond are investigating the 43rd homicide of 2016 after a man was killed following a shooting in the city’s southside Monday night.

Police believe the shooting occurred the vicinity of the Grab-N-Go convenience store in the 3800 block of Jeff Davis Highway at the corner of Bells Road.

According to police, the male victim identified as James “Jimmy” T. Bishop, 54, of Goolsby Avenue, approached an officer claiming he was shot in the chest. He was rushed to VCU Medical Center where he later died.

No suspect information has been released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
