Shooting and standoff on Richmond’s southside leaves one seriously injured; suspect still loose

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police are investigating after a shooting left one person critically injured and a standoff ended in no apprehensions.

Police did not give a description of the suspect who they say shot a victim on the 4600 block of Southwood Parkway early Sunday morning.

According to a witness at the scene, the shooter then ran into a nearby apartment.

Police then proceeded to evacuate the surrounding apartments before utilizing standoff tactics.

Deputy Chief Steve Drew described the situation to 8News.

“We went through the negotiation process, we used some technology we have, and at this point we felt the apartment was pretty much vacant,” he said. “Then, as a last resort we deployed an entry team, they went inside and cleared the apartment, no one was inside.”
