RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police are looking for two suspects who they say assaulted a man last night on South Cherry Street, near VCU’s campus.

The suspects allegedly beat the man after he approached them about trespassing on private property.

Police do not know the identities of the two men who allegedly punched the man before fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to Retreat Hospital to be treated for a laceration above his eye resulting from the altercation.

Police described the first suspect as a black male, five foot eleven inches in height and weighing about 200 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a red shirt.

The victim could not describe the second male suspect.

VCU Police, who responded to the scene, said that they have increased police presence in the area, but that it “can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the community.” Police have increased patrols in the area.

VCU Police are currently investigating the matter.
