ap_668059253002

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Week 2 for our panel of experts is here. Almost everyone had an above average week (except Chip Brierre). Newcomer Ron Carthen has pulled out to an early lead with his near perfect week.

As always, feel free to play along at home.

ronRon Carthen, 8News Editor & Vlogger (Last week – 7-1, Overall – 7-1)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Shedrick McCall and the Skyhawks running game will tire and destroy the Lancers

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

This is the toughest game to pick so far this season. There is a sense of urgency for both teams especially for the Sooners that don’t want to start the season 1-2. I think J.T. Barrett will make enough big plays and their young defense will make enough stops against Baker Mayfield and the Sooners offense to get a huge win in their first true road test this season.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Louisville Cardinals

Big early season ACC matchup but I think Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals offense will take advantage of the absence of Seminoles safety Derwin James and put this program on the map on Saturday. Then you can consider Jackson in the Heisman conversation.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Hugh Freeze can become the first coach to defeat Nick Saban in 3 straight meetings since Purdue’s Joe Tiller, when Saban was at Michigan State from 1997-99. This is the Saturday that the 3rd time is a charm for the Crimson Tide. Tim Williams and the Tide defense will make enough stops to shut down Chad Kelly and the Rebels offense in their first true road game this season.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Connecticut Huskies

Growing pains will continue for Bronco Mendenhall and the Cavaliers. So many issues on the offensive line and their defense will not make enough stops to win this one on the road.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

I see the Hokies rebound from last week’s loss to Tennessee extend the Eagles ACC losing streak to 10 games (Last conference win vs Syracuse in 2014) but they have to fix their issues with turnovers. They have 9 lost fumbles in their first 2 games this season.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

My lock pick of the week for sure. The Spiders will not lose to the Seawolves on the road. I don’t expect it to be close.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Dallas Cowboys

This will be a close one but if the Cowboys take advantage of their running game and make enough stops on defense they can pull this off. Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris should have a great day with the best offensive line in the league.

will-12Will Armbruster, 8News Digital Producer (Last week – 6-2, Overall – 6-2)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

It won’t be the 62-0 thrashing they put on Midlothian last week, but I like the No. 1 ranked Skyhawks to improve to 3-0.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

It’s difficult to fathom Oklahoma starting the season 0-2, but they’re underdogs at home.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Louisville Cardinals

Louisville sophomore QB Lamar Jackson is off to a sensational start and can stake his claim as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner with a big performance against No. 2 ranked Florida State.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama has lost each of its past two meetings against Ole Miss. They will reverse that trend on Saturday.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Virginia Cavaliers

Bronco Mendenhall has his work cut out for him as the 0-2 Cavaliers have yet to even look like a competitive team. Their woes will continue on the road.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

Tech’s offense is at least somewhat fun to watch this season under first-year coach Justin Fuente, and the Hokies are 6-point favorites at home.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Richmond is tabbed as most people’s favorites to win the CAA, and I see no reason why the 2-0 Spiders will stumble in their conference opener.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

I’m not high on either team, but the ‘Skins just feel like the safe play at home. And Vegas agrees with me.

MitchMitch Carr, 8Sports Director (Last week – 6-2, Overall – 6-2)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Skyhawks have lost five games to teams from this area in the last 5 years. Manchester has two of those wins, but I think Bird has an edge in size and nastiness this year.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Oklahoma Sooners

This season is starting out as a year like 1998 where even the best teams have 2 losses. I don’t know that anyone is really way better than anyone else, except Alabama. Oklahoma beating Ohio State is in line with that theory.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Florida State Seminoles

Lamar Jackson is the early for the Heisman but the teams he has torn up are hot garbage. FSU is not.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide will not be stopped.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Connecticut Huskies

I do not believe in this UVA team and I will not believe until they prove they deserve it. I may pick Central Michigan to win in Charlottesville.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies have lost nine fumbles in two games. That is historically bad. The good news is it can’t continue. Also, Boston College is bad.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

It’s Richmond’s first game of the CAA slate, and they are the conference favorites. The run starts Saturday.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

Dak Prescott may be the new Brandon Weeden. He’s accurate within ten yards but can’t throw the ball down the field. I can’t see a rookie QB dinking and dunking his way down the field against that secondary.

Kerri webKerri O’Brien, 8News Investigative Reporter (Last week – 6-2, Overall – 6-2)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Two undefeated teams here. This could be tight but I am going with home field advantage again.  Plus, L.C Bird has the higher state rank.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

I am going with the Buckeyes in this very big and anticipated game.  I think we saw the Sooner weaknesses in that game against Houston.  OSU wins!

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Louisville Cardinals

Derwin James absence will be felt for FSU.  The Cardinals Lamar Jackson who is a super stud will take advantage of that hole and get the W.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama’s defense has been on fire. Ole Miss has been hit with injuries.  I am going with Alabama to win big.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Virginia Cavaliers

It’s been ugly for the Cavaliers (as I predicted)  but I think this week UVA finally earns a W.  The Huskies defense will be tough and will make it ugly.  However, I believe the Cavaliers offense is just a bit better.

It will be close but UVA gets the win.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

While the Eagles picked up a win last week, it was still messy.  BC has some serious kicker problems…missed field goals.  Jerod Evans is completing about 66% of his throws and I don’t think BC will be able to move the ball through the Hokies D.

I go with Virginia Tech.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

UR looks great!  (again as I predicted)  The skills on the field continue and I’m sorry Stoney Brook who?  Big win for UR.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

This is a tough one.  Both teams looked awful last week.  I still think the Skins are the best in the NFC East (weak division) and that Cousins will get it together returning to his glory of the end of last season.

However, this will be a low scoring, boring and frustrating game to watch.  Skins squeak out the win.

king-robbRobb Crocker, 8News Digital Content Manager (Last week – 5-3, Overall – 5-3)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

No one beats the Skyhawks at home… I mean no one.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

Tough one to pick – this game is a must win for the Sooners (and the Big 12). But this OSU squad is too good to just roll over to a desperate team, even if they are on the road. OSU wins by one in a nail biter.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Louisville Cardinals

Louisville’s Lamar Jackson is just that good. This game will be his coming out party. The Cards by three.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

No way the Tide drops three straight to Ole Miss. Lock of the week. ‘Bama by 10.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Virginia Cavaliers

No logical reason as to why I’m picking the Cavs. I’ve just got a feeling. UVa by three.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

If only B.C. could be judged on how well their defense is only. They’d be a top 25 team. That’s not the case. Tech will have three more fumbles but still manage to win by seven.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Richmond wins big away from home by 17.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

This is a must win for both teams. The Redskins’ defense will help them power past the Cowboys.

tracey-smith-web-2Tracey Smith, 8News Reporter (Last week – 5-3, Overall – 5-3)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: Manchester Lancers

I know the Skyhawks are ranked higher but I try not to go with the obvious pick.  Go Lancers!

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes get my vote easy.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Florida State Seminoles

I’ve always been impressed with FSU. So my bets for them.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Rarely will I bet against the Crimson Tide. ‘Bama will take this one.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Connecticut Huskies

I normally like to trot for Virginia teams but I just haven’t seen anything good come from UVA yet. Maybe they’ll surprise me. But, for now, I’m not taking any risks.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

They are coming off of a loss but I think they have a good thing going.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Richmond is doing well this season. Stoney Brook is in the CAA but I’m not worried enough to bet against the Spiders.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

My dad would be very upset if I ever rooted for the Cowboys. Family values come into play today and I’m saying #HTTR.

amanda-malkowskiAmanda Malkowski, 8News Good Morning Richmond Anchor (Last week – 5-3, Overall – 5-3)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: Manchester Lancers

Rolling the dice and going with Morgan Dean’s alma mater the Lancers.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

This could go either way, but I’m going to think Ohio State will pull away. Their defense isn’t great, but I think their offense will prevail.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Louisville Cardinals

I’m giving this one to Louisville. Hometown advantage.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Clueless about this conference.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Connecticut Huskies

Virginia is struggling already. After watching them last week, I can’t pick them. Sorry, fans.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

I’m going with the locals and picking the Hokies. This will be a close game, though, I’m guessing.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Keep it going boys! The Spiders look great.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Dallas Cowboys

Ugh, both look weak.

chip webChip Brierre, 8Sports Anchor (Last week – 2-6, Overall – 2-6)

Manchester Lancers @ L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Pick: L.C. Bird Skyhawks

L.C. Bird is back on top behind another stellar defense. Manchester has Brendon Clarke, the Skyhawks stopped him before they’ll do it again.

Ohio State Buckeyes @ Oklahoma Sooners

Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes

This is a tough one to pick, because both have glaring weaknesses. Buckeyes defense is the better one, but this will be a close fight.

Florida State Seminoles @ Louisville Cardinals

Pick: Florida State Seminoles

This a different animal than the Noles faced against Ole Miss two weeks ago. Still, FSU is more talented. Just don’t hope Jameis Winston is there to save them if FSU is down again big at halftime.

Alabama Crimson Tide @ Ole Miss Rebels

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Roll tide? Roll tide.

Virginia Cavaliers @ Connecticut Huskies

Pick: Virginia Cavaliers

Been 16 straight road games that the Hoos have lost. Mendenhall said there is reason to feel optimistic after a strong start against Oregon. If he feels that way, I’ll buy.

Boston College Eagles @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies

Hokies are having a tough time holding onto the football. Needs to change, and that starts with an on paper, easy matchup against BC.

Richmond Spiders @ Stoney Brook Seawolves

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Spiders took a huge hit in losing Gordon Collins for the season, that is now a young group needing to get up to speed quickly. First CAA game, on the road, Spiders still loaded in all other categories. They’ll be fine.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Pick: Washington Redskins

Pittsburgh had Big Ben and Antonio Brown. Dallas has Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant. Dak isn’t Big Ben, but he does have Ezekiel Elliott, Kirk Cousins not sure what he has in the back field. That running game and run defense for Washington is a glaring concern. But Cousins is better than Prescott, he won’t let his team put up another dud.
