PETERSBURG, Va (WRIC) — Petersburg officials say all Petersburg Area Transit buses are now safe to ride. Several days ago, buses were spotted on the streets with expired inspections stickers.

“Just because the city government can’t run it successfully, these people should not have to be kind of like collateral damage to actions that they have no control over.”

The owner of Wheel Service says he inspected at least five buses this week in spite of the $1,300  the city owed for past inspections.

“People in Petersburg depend on these buses to get to the doctor and to the grocery store and different places because they don’t have private transportation,” said Parker Simmons. “Just because the city government can’t run it successfully, these people should not have to be kind of like collateral damage to actions that they have no control over.”

Wheel Service is just one of several companies working with Petersburg as they work to pay down $12 million of debt.
