Fire breaks out on Amtrak train headed to Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Amtrak is investigating to determine the cause of a fire that disrupted service on Northeast Regional Train 85 Thursday night.

According to Amtrak, the incident occurred one mile north of Ashland at 9:16 p.m.

Local authorities extinguished the fire, which was contained in the locomotive. The local fire department helped the 47 passengers off the train.

The passengers were transferred to Amtrak Train 97 to continue their travels. There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members.

The train originated in New York City and was heading to Richmond, according to Amtrak.
