VDOT seeking the public’s opinion on proposed widening of I-64 in Henrico, New Kent Counties

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are seeking public comments on proposed improvements to increase traffic capacity to a section of Interstate 64 in Henrico and New Kent counties.

The proposal includes one additional lane in the median of each direction of I-64 from approximately Exit 200 at the I-295 interchange to Exit 205 near Bottoms Bridge.

VDOT says if the proposal is approved, it will be the fourth section to be implemented from the I-64 Peninsula Study Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

VDOT and FHWA are specifically soliciting comments on VDOT’s draft request for Record of Decision (ROD) on this section, available here.

Comments should be submitted by September 27 to the VDOT Richmond District, to the attention of Mr. Palmer Stearns, 2430 Pine Forest Drive, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, by telephone at (804) 524-6012 or via email to palmer.stearns@vdot.virginia.gov. If submitting comments by email, please reference “Comments on I-64 widening in Henrico & New Kent” in the subject line.

More information about the proposed capacity improvements for this section is available on the project website. For information about the Interstate 64 Peninsula Study (I-64 Corridor from I-95 in Richmond to I-664 in Hampton), please visit here. For information about this and other sections of I-64 widening, please visit here.
