RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Late Sunday night, Spiders’ running back Gordon Collins received the news he would miss the rest of the season after a knee injury on Saturday against Norfolk St.
Collins, a junior, rushed for 118 yards against the Virginia Cavaliers to begin the season.
The injury sustained occurred during a short dump pass in the first half, ending the night for Collins.
Gordon Collins wrote an open letter Monday to inform the Richmond Spiders community, “I’ll be back.”
In the letter Collins writes,
“I’ve been through a lot in my 20 years and this is just another mountain to climb. There’s a saying out there that says that god gives the hardest battles to the toughest soldiers. I can sit around and wallow in disappointment or I can attack rehab and recovery like no other and come back stronger than before. If you know anything about it, there’s no doubt I’m choosing the latter.”
He will get a medical redshirt, and have two years of eligibility remaining at Richmond.
