City of Petersburg makes payment to keep firefighter turnout gear

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Petersburg city officials tell 8News the outstanding balance of more than $30,000 was paid Monday morning to keep basic firefighter turnout gear from being repossessed.

The department owed Blue Ridge Rescue Suppliers nearly $33,000. In a letter sent to Petersburg Fire Chief T.C. Hairston, the company says if a payment was not made by September 12, they would repossess the items on September 15.

Last Friday, the community came together for a fundraiser at a Walmart shopping center on South Crater Road to help the local firefighters raise the money needed. The fundraiser collected more than $1,400.
