Get Outside RVA: What Richmond has to offer

Spy Rock and McAfee's Knob, both along the Appalachian Trail in southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond, and for that matter, Virginia as a whole, has a lot to offer when it comes to outdoor activities and adventure sports.

From the mountains to the beach to the bay, almost every landform and adventure sport exists in varying qualities in the state, and much of that is right here in Richmond.

While we don’t have the elevation gains of the Blue Ridge Mountains or the rugged beaches of the Eastern Shore, here in Richmond we have the river and the James River Park system.

As a result, we have access to hiking, trail running, mountain biking, road biking, bouldering, rock climbing, white water kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and rafting, to name just a few of the many activities afforded by the park system here in town.

And while a vibrant outdoor culture exists in the area in each of these varying disciplines, there are few publications covering outdoor events, culture, activities and destinations in the Richmond area.

With “Get Outside RVA” we want to bring the best information possible to the people on all their favorite activities, while also bringing new folks into the fold.
