Police: Teen shoplifts, leads police on chase with mom in car

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — A police chase ended in a crash on the west side of Indianapolis Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says the chase started as police questioned a suspected shoplifter at a Kohl’s store in Speedway.

The 17-year-old female suspect ran to a car and sped off with her 45-year-old mother in the passenger seat, police said.

She lost control while heading east on 16th Street at N. Tibbs Avenue, crossing the median, hitting one vehicle, crashing into a utility pole, rolling several times and coming to a stop after striking a second vehicle in the parking lot of the US Postal Service Rainbow Station.

The teen and her mother were trapped and had to be pulled out by firefighters. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A man in one of the vehicles hit by the girl’s car was hurt.

The 17-year-old and her mother have not been identified.
