East end community holds vigil for murdered convenience store owner

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Friends, family and coworkers paused on Monday night to remember Habeeb Hafeed, the man gunned down on August 24th outside his convenience store on North 30th Street. The vigil was held in the very parking lot where Hafeed was killed.

The father of two was outside of the Sam Market when the sound of gunfire was reported. Hafeed fell to the ground and was pronounced dead on scene from a gunshot wound. The business was closed at the time of the incident.


Hafeed’s younger cousin, Anwar Hafeed, described him as someone who never stopped giving.

D0A68C506F74412386373793123FBC59“I was in high school, he was older and was working. I needed some shoes,” said Hafeed. “I didn’t even ask him- I just mentioned it. Next thing, here he comes with the shoes, says, ‘Here you go, cuzzo.'”
