Resident organizes back to school giveaway, pays out of pocket

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A local resident used money out of her own pocket to organize and hold a back to school giveaway Saturday.

Laveisha Goode used her own money and donations from the community to gather gently-used clothes, school supplies and personal care items to give to students ahead of the upcoming school year.

The event also offered $1 haircuts to students getting ready for school.

8News spoke with Goode about the event.

“You don’t have to be rich, you don’t have to hold a high position in any office, to give back to your community,” Goode said. “If you’re blessed and you have the means and are able to do it, then share.”
