Back to school community day being held at Whitcomb Court Playground

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A back to school community day was held today at the Whitcomb Court Playground in a joint effort by the Amiya Moses Scholarship Foundation and the Whitcomb Court Tenancy Council.

As part of the free family event, volunteers were on hand giving away free haircuts, free school supplies and free food.

Organizers on hand said that between 60 and 75 people were in attendance at today’s event.

Ellen Robertson, a 6th District City Council Member spoke with 8News about the event.

“The stronger the community is, the more they know each other, the more they take on the village mentality that it takes a village to raise a child,” she said. “It also takes a village to build a family in the community.”

Amiya Moses died from a gunshot wound in December of last year.
