Richmond Police ID Whitcomb Court homicide victim

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police identified the man who died in a shooting that took place at Whitcomb Court late Friday night.

Joseph C. Johnson, who was 44, lived on the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street.

A woman was also shot in the incident and is currently being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred just before midnight in the 2300 block of Bethel Street. A large group of people were present at the scene when officers arrived. Police investigation revealed a party was happening in the area.

Lieutenant Jason Hudson from the Richmond Police Major Crimes Division asked for the community’s help in solving the crime.

“We know a number of people were there Friday night just before the shooting, and our hope is that they come forward,” he said. “Assistance from the community – specifically the individuals who witnessed this incident – is what’s going to help us solve this homicide.”

Both victims were taken to the hospital at the time of the incident, but Johnson died as a result of his injuries after getting there.
