25 apartments evacuated in Colonial Heights due to gas leak

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Colonial Heights fire and emergency crews were on the scene of a broken gas line Thursday morning.

Just before 9 a.m., emergency crews arrived at a dentist’s office on Dale Avenue just off of Ellerslie Avenue for a broken gas line.

The dentist’s office, a commercial building and 25 nearby apartments were evacuated. As a result, no injuries occurred.

Columbia gas also responded to the scene and have since capped off the leak.

The Colonial Heights Fire Department is currently in the process of checking businesses and apartments to see if they are safe before letting people go back inside.

Crews will remain on the scene for clean up.

Dale Avenue between Ellerslie Avenue and Maple Grove Avenue is shut down until the clean-up is complete.
