RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Friday afternoon, Henrico’s Townley Haas returned to NOVA Aquatics Center to celebrate his gold medal victory in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Haas, a Benedictine College Preparatory School graduate and current student at the University of Texas, developed and matured his skills at NOVA in his youth. He is the first Olympian and Olympic gold medalist to come out of the swimming club.
Current NOVA swimmers, alongside their parents, got the chance to meet Townley Haas, grab an autograph and receive encouragement from a guy who once swam in the same pool at a similar age.
Haas is set to throw out the first pitch of the Flying Squirrels home game against Harrisburg Saturday night at the Diamond before heading back to school on Monday to begin classes and training for the collegiate swimming season.
