Meeting planned to discuss the city of Petersburg’s unpaid trash bills

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — As Petersburg’s bills continue to pile up, the city’s trash might soon be too.

The city owes more than half a million dollars in back bills and the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) is threatening to stop services.

The CVWMA says Petersburg has not paid their trash bill since May. The company is now serving a final notice and are planning to meet on Friday to discuss the next steps.

The CVWMA hand delivered a letter to city officials and even gave the state a copy, stating it wants the city to respond by at least August 26.

“We’re just asking the city to at least pay a current invoice and provide us with a plan to become current on their bills,” said Kimberly Kynes with the CVWMA.

The board meeting is set to start Friday at 9 a.m. in Richmond.
