RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Now that we’re finally getting a slight break from the heat, it’s time to get out and enjoy the weather … until the rain moves in. Here’s to hoping it holds out enough to check out some of the best that Richmond has to offer.

Come out to see the Flying Squirrels play, and get a free Grateful Dead t-shirt, as Grateful Dead cover band the Dead Giveaway performs between innings. Only the first 1,000 people through the gate get the shirts, so get there early. And then Saturday night, Richmond’s own gold-medal Olympic swimmer, Townley Haas, will be on hand to throw the game’s first pitch before the Squirrels take on the Harrisburg Senators. The game will be followed by fireworks.

A truly Richmond cultural experience featuring Richmond’s favorite macabre space aliens, metalheads and barbecue. Besides sets from Gwar, Richmond’s other favorite metal band Lamb of God will be on hand as well, along with 13 other bands. Food trucks from Goatocado, Alamo Barbecue and Mean Bird will be on hand, as well as lots of beer opportunities.

Early 2000’s hip-hop stars Ja Rule and Ashanti make a tour stop at Richmond’s the National Saturday night.

A festival featuring international and local Latin Jazz and Salsa music. Lineup includes Luisito Rosario, Melina “La Muneca de La Salsa,” Izis “La Enfermaera de Las Salsa,” Frankely Fernandez and more.

Classic movie double feature including Charlie Chaplin’s first full-length feature, “The Kid” and the 1956 French fantasy comedy-drama “The Red Balloon.” All proceeds benefit the Byrd Theater.
