CHICAGO (WATE) – According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News in Chicago, police discovered the burned remains of a 4-year-old boy wrapped in a charred blanket inside an abandoned home.
Investigators are looking into the alleged abuse of the child. Neighbors told theChicago Tribune they often heard screams of “let me out” coming from the home. Investigators believe he was kept in a back room where there was a putrid smell of urine and he was rarely fed.
“Based on their initial observations of the body of the 4-year-old, investigators believed that they had found the body of an infant that was approximately nine months of age,” Cook County assistant state’s attorney Jamie Santini told Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on Thursday.
Experts say being extremely malnourished could have lead to the child being severely underweight.
Three people have been charged with concealing the death of the child. Alyssa Garcia, 27; Christian Camarena, 19; and a 17-year-old boy were taken into custody and could receive more charges following autopsy results.
