One occupant hospitalized after Henrico apartment fire

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One resident is in the hospital Sunday afternoon after an apartment fire in Henrico County.

As of 4:50 p.m. the person’s condition was still unknown, but officials say they had evacuated the apartment prior to their arrival.

Fire officials say they arrived at the fire in the in the Gateway Apartments complex in Henrico’s west end around 3:40 p.m.

When they arrived, smoke was visible from a second story window of a multi-family building.

Due to quick action on firefighters behalf, the fire was contained to the residence where the fire began.

Officials said the fire originated in that apartment’s kitchen, where food was being prepared.

As a result of the fire, the occupants have been displaced. It is unclear how long they will be displaced, and whether or not they will utilized assistance services.

The injured occupant was carried to VCU Medical Center.
