Residents terrified after dozens of shots ring out during shootout at Petersburg apartment complex

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating after they say multiple people were involved in a shootout in broad daylight at an apartment complex in Petersburg.

The shootout occurred at roughly 1 p.m. on Tuesday near the clubhouse Lieutenants Run apartment complex off Johnson Road. Police say two groups of people were shooting at each other and that at least two dozen gunshots were fired.

No one was injured, although several vehicles were left riddled with bullets. The apartment building did not sustain any damage.

8News spoke with neighborhoods who did not wish to go on camera but said they were terrified when they heard the gunfire erupt. One of them said they were so afraid a bullet would fly into their home, they hid under their bed.
