HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One woman is dead after a fire consumed her apartment in eastern Henrico County.
52-year-old Lisa Woodson was killed this afternoon when her Highland Springs townhome caught fire.
Tonight she’s being remembered by her neighbors on Cornett Street. These neighbors continue looking on in disbelief as police and fire officials search for clues into what caused this devastating fire.
“It must have been around almost 4 o’clock,” one neighbor said, describing the scene when he first noticed smoke coming from the back of his neighbor’s two story townhouse.
Henrico Fire units arrived at the scene of the fire in the 200 block of Cornett Street around 4 p.m. Cornett Street is off of Hanover Road in the county’s east end.
The trucks arrived to find smoke coming from the upper floor of a two-story townhouse.
After forcing the front door open, they encountered floor-to-ceiling smoke on the second floor.
They found Woodson’s body on the second floor near the source of the fire. No other people were found in the home.
It took firefighters about 17 minutes to respond and put the fire under control.
The cause of the fire has not yet been made available.
The Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office and the Henrico Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
