RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Hillary Clinton introduced US Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate today in Florida. And tonight, he’s back home in Richmond.

Tim Kaine just arrived back in Richmond where he was welcomed home by family and friends for the first time since he was announced as Clinton’s running mate.

Kaine arrived home to his neighborhood in northside Richmond to a crowd of proud neighbors all there to congratulate him for being Clinton’s Vice Presidential pick.

Hundreds of people waited over two hours for the senator’s arrival from that campaign event with Hillary Clinton in Miami.

He shook a few hands and then quickly retreated inside his home.

The senator’s neighbors say they’re extremely happy for him and know he’ll make a wonderful vice president.

“We are just excited for the neighborhood, and excited for the country,” Bill Forness, Kaine’s neighbor, said. “I think Tim Kaine is just an awesome neighbor and an awesome representative of Richmond, and [he] is going to do great things for the country.”

The senator didn’t spend much time with the crowd after his long day, but he did take the time to express his gratitude for their well wishes.

In his speech earlier in the day he said he plans to attend mass tomorrow at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church here in Richmond where he’s been a member for decades.
