Richmond, Va. (WRIC) — The United States will be sending 560 more American troops to Iraq to battle ISIS, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced as he arrived in Baghdad Monday.

The troops will be stationed about 25 miles south of Mosul at the Qarayyah Airfield, which was recently recaptured from ISIS.

President Barack Obama approved the deployment.

Carter said these troops will help bolster the Iraqi efforts against the Islamic State. He is in Iraq to discuss the Iraqi army’s plans.
